Duttons Pond Flixton
Urmston Angling Association
is a former brickworks claypit and if my memory serves me well there was a brickworks
very close by. I'm afraid I have to own up to never knowing quite the right spelling to use - Duttons or Dutton's
with an apostrophe?
Also quite close by to Duttons Pond is a hill which some
years ago I used to walk my dogs. I often wondered about the origins of both. Anyway it turns out that they
are both man-made. The hill is known locally as "The Green Hill" and is actually an old fly-ash tip - I'm
assuming deposited there by the same brickworks.

Pond is home to the Urmston Angling Association.
The UAA was formed in
1974 and their inaugural general meeting was held on 29th January 1974 followed
by their very first committee meeting on the 6th
The Urmston Angling Association hold regular
meetings on the first Tuesday of the month and have a good system of coaching in place
including Youth Development.

Just as a
point of interest I think it's worth mentioning that the path around the pond itself is actually a private
path, maintained by the members of the UAA.
If you happen to be enjoying Duttons Pond while
walking a dog please remember to keep your pet on a short leash - accidents with fishing poles and dogs have happened in the past which is of course
very distressing to both parties.
I'm personally not an
Urmston Angling Association member - in fact I wouldn't know one end of a fishing rod from the
other - but I have walked dogs in the area in years gone by and appreciate just how excitable they can quickly become, especially when in the presence of
